Diakha Madina: a corner of Africa

Diakha Madina is a village of 700 people surrounded by other small villages. Total: 5,000 people without electricity, running water, roads or telephone. The ‘Amics de Diakha Madina’ Association, a private initiative created in 1999, has provided the area with mills for cereals, manual ploughs, school materials, computers and solar energy generators.

In 2005 Baratz financed a medical centre with the collaboration of the Elai Alai Foundation (www.elai-alai.org) and the Trueta Foundation (www.trueta.cat). Baratz currently manages and financially supports the centre. In 2006 the company also collaborated with the Barcelona Municipal Education Institute to create a Senegal Resources Centre and a library bus system in the city of Kedougou.
